Home Detailing

In addition to painting and decorating, Paintology offers a “Home Detailing” service which directs attention to the finishing touches with emphasis on fittings, fixtures and heritage or contemporary features.

What exactly is home detailing? Good question. This is a relatively recent addition to the paintology service. It has developed from experience gained whilst renovating houses. Home detailing focuses on blending and finishing all detailed aspects of your home. Special emphasis is placed on ensuring a home’s original or desired style is maintained consistently throughout. This service is perfect for (but not limited to) heritage properties that have been altered or added to over the years. Over the life of a building certain features are often removed. Some are added, and some were never completely finished to start with. Below is a list of some of the areas we are able to improve your home:

• Re instating of cornices, ceiling roses and air vents.
• Installation of picture or chair rails.
• Replacement of non standard or inconsistent architraves, skirtings or doors.
• Installation of quarter round timber beading between floor and skirtings.
• Repairing of sash cords.
• Replacing of fly screens.
• Easing of old windows.
• Replacing of broken or cracked panes of glass.
• Updating or replacing of power points and light switches.
• Chasing of walls to recess exposed cables.
• Restoring or renewing lighting.
• Installation of fire grates and mantles.
• Engineering of new keys to fit original door locks.
• Re-instating of removed chimney breasts.
• Repairing of floor boards.

In addition many pieces of old door or window hardware can either be restored or replaced. The restoration process involves the removal of old paint, (dismantling of old locks) and all required fixtures. All articles are then sent away to be coated in new brass, bronze or chrome as desired. Once completed, all fixtures are refitted. This process works well on such things as

• Window locks
• Window lifters
• Door hinges
• Door knockers
• Lights

The process can often be completed for less than the cost of new equivalents, and often provide a far more authentic look in keeping with the fabric of the building. However if the door and window hardware is not in any way consistent it can all be replaced and standardized. Home detailing provides all the finishing touches your home requires to restore it to its original glory, or beyond.
